Morality is the basis of all restraints for individuals
I remember a Movie starred by Hoffman – “Sphere”. Many people think that all problems of this world can be solved by the development of technology. But the story of this movie says: if humanity gets the power/tech which the spiritual and social development level of humanity doesn’t match, it will not be a gift but a doom. Higher spiritual and social level can create better restraints for individuals, and better restraints can keep the world safe or even survive along with the technology progress.
The restraints for a human being may include two kinds: interior restraints and exterior restraints. Morality is interior restriction. Contracts, laws and force are exterior restrictions. Among them, morality is the basis of all restraints for individuals, because any exterior restraints must be executed and applied by human beings, and only when most individuals of a society have a proper morality corresponding to the development level of the society, the exterior restraints may be able to keep the society safe.
By the way, the exterior restraints of today of this world will be too weak, too slow and too expensive to be enough for future, such as contracts, laws and forces. I guess that there will be some stronger exterior restraints arise in future, for example: a spiritual connection as many SF movies and games described? The spiritual connection may let the communication and cooperation much more efficient and keep the mental statuses of people mutually supported and checked (at least periodically)?
OMG, I guess: even if you gets a chance to visit a civilization which is much higher than us, those aliens will check your mental status or thoughts before they let you in, just like the airport security. Em, emm, I do have some secrets which I don’t want to share, could I? I promise they are just some fun and pleasure not dangerous…
